On Thursday Evening April 20, 2006, His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas presided over the Matins Service of Holy Friday at the Diocesan Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Johnstown, PA. The Matins Service with the Reading of the Twelve Passion Gospels sets the tone for the solemn celebration of the Passion of Our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ. The heartwrenching account of the betrayal, mocking, scourging, crucifixion and agonizing death of Our Saviour as contained in the Passion Gospel and augmented by the Matinal Antiphons and Sessional Hymns, reminds those in attendance of the Kenosis, or voluntary self-emptying Love of Our Saviour.
